Resolution: Meaning of ATX and ATDT

Table of contents

ATX is the AT command set series with which we can control and configure modems.

With ATX we can tell the modem how to handle the dial tone:

  • ATX0 - The modem does not recognize the dial tone. (dial tone, or let's say the “Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud”)
  • ATX1 - The modem waits for the dial tone before it starts dialing.
  • ATX3 - The modem ignores the dial tone detection. After dialing the ringing (“Duud duuud”)
  • ATDT - Attention Dial Tone: AT is the attention tone used to put the modem into command mode by waiting for commands. D stands for “Dial”. T means that dialing should be done using a tone dialing method, as opposed to P, which stands for pulse dialing.

ATDT066431588745988 the modem would call the number (I use this to test whether the line and the modem are working).

With GSM I need X3 because I don't get a free tone.
